Calvinism and Calvin

I have been listening to the lectures for my class in an attempt to get all caught up (as of Sunday I finally was!). The class is about the English Revolution, which was in part precipitated by religious differences. There are a lot of references about Calvinism (the doctrine of predestination) and the religious conflict that ensued over differing interpretations and acceptance of this doctrine. Every time the word "Calvinism" was mentioned, I thought of a little cute little red-haired tyke named Calvin, the son of some good friends. His mom graciously provided this picture when I told her I was thinking of doing this post. Isn't he cute?
