Snow!

Blizzard Nemo hit us this weekend with about 2 feet of snow. The storm started in earnest about 4 pm on Friday and went until about 10:30 am on Saturday. Lots of wind, lots of snow and lots of media hype. About 400,000 people in Massachusetts lost power, but thankfully I didn't. I was sent home at noon, but will be paid for the full day. That is very unusual--usually if we leave early for bad weather we need to use vacation time. It was bad enough that the government of MA put a state-wide driving ban in place from 4 pm on Friday until 4 pm on Saturday (western MA got to start driving around 1:30), with cautions to only go out after the ban was lifted if absolutely necessary. Public transportation shut down in Boston at 3:30 pm on Friday and even today (Sunday), only limited service is available, and that is just within the past 1/2 or so that any public transportation opened up. They are hoping to be fully ready for the morning commute tomorrow. Church was cancelled today--most wards in the stake cancelled church. It was a really nice weekend just to hang out at home. This wasn't one of my super-productive weekends though--I needed some downtime. I'm still in my PJs!

These are pictures from late afternoon on Friday--before it really hit in earnest.

I tried for some night-time pictures, but it was too dark. You can see the snow coming down though.

Saturday morning--hard to tell how much snow we received. As you can tell, part of my balcony is completely bare and the other side has about 2 feet of snow. It was all about the wind and drifting.

To give you a sense of how deep it was and what a task it was to dig out.

The car on the left is completely buried.

This is my car--just to the right of the truck. The worst part was the snow in front of the car that was about 4 feet deep, 5 feet long and 4 feet wide. I didn't even know how I would tackle that. Thankfully the maintenance crew came around and got most of it with a bobcat. Still, it took me an hour to dig out, even with the help of a kind neighbor.
After all that effort to dig out my car I was too tired to walk around and take more pictures. Spent the rest of the weekend nice and cozy inside my condo.
